Waseda University (Waseda Daigaku), abbreviated as Sōdai , is a Japanese private research school in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Set up in 1882 as the Tōkyō Senmon Gakkō by Ōkuma Shigenobu, the school was formally renamed Waseda University in 1902.
